painting

I love working with color, and painting is one of the most crucial and satisfying aspects of my life. It keeps me sane and makes me tolerable! When I paint, I try to begin without any preconceptions of what the painting will look like when finished. Instead I work with the balance and imbalance of light, dark, color and movement, seeing what arises in the painting. Colors are woven together, overlapping and creating transition color depth and movement. The final stage is to bring it into balance, bring out a motif if applicable and to stop just before it is complete.

All of these paintings are watercolors and most are done in a technique called Veil Painting, whereby many, nearly transparent, layers of paint are overlapped, allowing each to dry before adding the next. This allows for great depth and subtlety, but requires patience.
